Summer 2016 I was approached via LinkedIn by Jos Martens (owner of Past Sense), and shortly after that we met each other. Jos creates beautiful wooden boxes, in which you can (for example) keep memories of a special occasion or person. He named these boxes ‘Levenskistje’ (literal translation: ‘Life Box’), we call it in English ‘Memento Box’.
We are working together now: Jos makes a wonderful simple version of a Memento Box, on the lid a photo made by me is printed.
The pictures on this page show the first made Memento Box and a sample lid that is printed recently.
The wood on which the photograph is printed is maple. The box is made of mahogany, with a small strip of ebony. The bottom and lid are finished on the inside with fabric. The photo – ‘Eternal Encounter’ – was made on the Danish North Sea beach at Agger in the northwest of Jutland and is part of the series ‘The language of sea and sky’.
All of my rectangular photos can be printed on a Memento Box.
The outer dimensions of the box are: length 26 cm, width 16.5 cm, height 11 cm (length 10.2”, width 6.5”, height 4.3”).
Five more maple lids have been printed with five more sample photos in recent weeks. Jos will make matching boxes made of different kinds of wood, so ultimately you can choose from six models. The photo will always be printed on maple wood.
The price of a box is € 180, – ($ 195.-) including VAT and excluding shipping. The shipping costs of course, depend on the destination. The production time is 4 weeks after receiving your payment. The delivery time varies depending on the destination and shipping method. I will inform you about the shipping costs and estimated delivery time in a proposal. All shipping will be traceable. See also the Return Policy at the bottom of this page.
Both this box and future sample boxes are for sale, or you can choose your favorite of my photos on this website and have it printed on a box model of your choice to have your very own, unique Memento Box.

Return Policy on Memento Boxes
From the time you receive your Memento Box from the courier, you have seven (7) days to decide whether to keep the Memento Box or return the box in its original condition and packaging for a refund. The time until seven days counts from the moment I receive notification of delivery by the courier until the moment I receive your email in which you declare you don’t want to keep the Memento Box.
I also require the Memento Box to be shipped out by you within four (4) days after confirming with me by email that the Box will be returned. So, if you receive a Memento Box and are not fully satisfied, you have:
– Seven (7) days to contact me about your intent to return the work (mail to firstname.lastname@example.org)
– Four (4) days from the day you contacted me to ship out the box in its original condition and packaging.
Do not ship the box before contacting me; you must first contact me within the seven (7) days.
If you do not notify me of your intent to return the Memento Box within 7 days of receipt or you do not ship the Memento Box within 4 days of notifying me, you will NOT be eligible for a refund.
The shipping costs for returning the box are at your account, the refund is the full purchase amount including the costs for shipping the Memento Box to you.
