I am an autodidactic fine art photographer from the Netherlands, with extensive experience in analog photography, developing and printing in my own darkroom, as well as working with digital cameras. In the past few years, after quitting my demanding job in facilities management and real estate, I have been focusing on simplicity and the tranquility of pure, natural living. This new way of living is reflected in my work.
Daily life in the western world is overflowing with stimuli that continuously force our senses to the limit of their abilities. In my photography I’m seeking the attention for a single detail, seeking for the soul itself of nature.
My work is often described as impressionist photography. I paint with light, the camera is my brush when creating images like watercolor paintings. My style is distinct and pure, and is characterized by coarse grain, overexposure, limited sharpness or subtle to abrupt camera movements.
I don’t manipulate or post process my photos, the abstraction and impressionism is created directly in the making of the image by the settings in the camera. Editing of his photos is limited to adjust the sharpness, contrast or color and possibly cropping the image. I don’t work in a studio or studio-like settings.
Born in 1959 in the city of Gouda, I now live with my wife and dog partly in Nijmegen and partly in a small farmhouse in the Danish Thy region in North West Jutland. In the special light and colors on this part of the coast of Denmark, most of the inspiration for my photography is born.
My photography has been sold in The Netherlands, Denmark and the Unites States of America.
The photos are for sale, in a limited edition of 4 signed and numbered large prints and 10 signed and numbered small prints, with a certificate of authenticity. See the page Info & pricing for the various options, sizes and prices.
